Customs and Traditions Hall

Bahrain's unique geographical position, its role as an international center of trade from the days of antiquity, and its interaction with various civilizations and cultures, have contributed to the wealth of the Island's customs and traditions. This Hall recreates the lifecycle of the Bahrain in the pre-oil period, from birth through the various stages of his life and the customs and special events associated with every stage of life.

Such events include the first steps of an infant, the emergence of his first tooth and his first haircut, the games which children played, the early education system, the search for a bride by the family or a matchmaker, and ending with marriage and starting a family. This Hall also sheds light on various aspects of folk medicine, public celebrations and special occasions. Bahrain's customs and traditions as well as its social environment had a direct impact on the clothes worn by women and men. There were dresses for almost every occasion, in a vast variety of design, colour, and embroidery. Many brides still choose a beautiful embroidered traditional dress for their wedding.

There is a special section on Bahrain architecture which shows how craftsmen, using local materials and styles, produced buildings well suited to the weather conditions and social habits of Bahrain.

A full-scale model of the courtyard of a traditional Bahrain house is the center of attraction in this Hall. It displays in detail daily life in a Bahrain home.
